Larry Carasea has graced many Winner Circles over the years of his racing career, but Saturday was his first with his immaculate '61 Corvette. Larry stopped Tim LaRose from scoring his second-straight American Muscle Stick Series win in the finals with his .019-over, 9.319 at 137.55 mph winning pass. Tim was deadly on the tree in round 1 with a .000 reaction to park Bill Goldsmith, then a .005 over Jake Lipke in their semifinal match, but his .106 to .056 deficit to Larry in the final wasn't enough to reel Larry in. Tim's 9.280 at 114.39 mph pass on his 9.24 dial was only good enough for the runner-up finish.
Larry scored a double-breakout win over Mark Bukowski in round 1, then trailered Ron LaRose in round 2 with a .009-over, 9.309 run. In the semis against Tom Simone, Larry took a .005 to .087 reaction time lead to the win to set up his showdown with Tim.
2nd Chance Race
Ron LaRose bounced back from his 2nd round loss to Larry Carasaea in the main event and scored the 2nd Chance Race win over Wally Warzecha. Ron dialed his '73 Nova SS in at a 9.50, but gave up a .070 to .013 reaction time advantage to Wally on the line but still ran closer to his dial-in with a 9.620 at 125.96 mph run to score the win by a razor-thin .008 margin. Wally dialed up a 10.60 for his '65 Cutlass, but could only muster a 10.782 at 127.79 mph and had to settle for the runner up finish.
Ron defeated Doral Short in round 1 on the strength of a .008 light; drew the bye run in round 2, then scored the semifinal win over "Wild" Bill Goldsmith in a double, red light start for both drivers. Bill's -.048 foul gave the win over to Ron's lesser, -.018 foul start.
Wally drew 2 bye runs through eliminations and defeated Gary Wilson Jr. in the second round to wrap up his day.
