4•27•2008 After a rainy Saturday night which forced us to run an 1/8 mile race, the sun came out this morning and we were able to complete our second race of the season. With the points season set to start next week, the racers were out today getting their machines ready for the season long battle. Here’s the rundown of April 27th’s action.

In Super Pro, Don Kiekel drove his dragster to the win as he stopped last week’s winner Chris Piston in the final round. Chris lit the red light with a .483 bulb and shut off for the runner-up spot while Don cut a .526 light and ran a 5.274 at 133.52 mph run on his 5.33 dial-in for the win. Chuck Fish in his dragster lost a very close one in the semis to Piston and last week’s runner-up Jason White was the other semifinalist in his 23 “T”.

Mike LaRose got back into the Pro winner’s circle today driving his ’68 Plymouth to the win over Rich Duffer who was in his ’65 Chevy. Mike was nearly perfect at the tree with a telepathic .501 and ran a 6.677 at 94.35 mph run on his 6.64 dial for the win. Rich put together a great run of his own as he had a .520 light and ran an 8.072 at 83.35 mph run on his 8.02 dial. Chris Forbes was the semifinalist in his ‘69 Nova.

Pro Bike was also decided by a red light as Keith Miller on his ’92 Suzuki was the benefactor of a Jose Cortes foul start. Keith won with a .792 initiated, 6.447 at 105.85 mph run on his 6.41 dial, while Jose had a .470 bulb and wasted a 6.740 at 107.61 mph run on his 6.64 dial. Cory Bingel and Skip Tamburino were the semifinalists.

Pro Sled was won by Dennis Boston Jr. riding his ’96 Ski-doo to the win over Kevin Wuest who was on his ’97 Polaris. Kevin had the better reaction, .525 to .570, but he ran under his 7.40 dial-in with a 7.322 at 98.04 mph allowing Dennis to win with a 6.403 at 104.62 mph run on his 6.19 dial-in. John Blume and Mike Stiles were the semifinalists.

Anthony Zangari took home the Street Money cash today driving his ’99 Camaro to the win over Terry Lee who was driving his Chevy powered ’89 Mustang. Anthony had a great .514 light and ran a 7.501 at 92.79 mph on his 7.48 dial, while Terry bulbed with a .466 light and ran a 7.322 at 98.04 mph on his 7.25 dial. Matt McKenzie and Scott Wilbur were the semifinalists.

In Modified, it was Al Clark Sr. scoring the win in his ’70 ‘Cuda with a .566 r.t. and his 7.373 at 94.37 mph run on his 7.17 dial to defeat Becca Searles who has moved up from the Jr. Dragster ranks in her ’86 Mustang. Becca tossed away a 9.790 at 70.54 mph run on her 9.74 dial with a .489 bulb and settled for the runner-up spot. Rich Duffer was the semifinalist.

Matthew McKenzie drove his Hemi powered ’07 Jeep to the Street Trophy win when he defeated Carl Scarano in his ’07 Chevy. Matt had a .663 reaction and ran an 8.436 at 81.94 mph on his 8.40 dial, while Carl cut a .760 light and ran a 9.412 at 76.01 mph on his 9.25 dial for the runner-up spot. Tom Hall was the semifinalist.

John Kufhta won the Bike/Sled Combo on his ’89 Polaris when Lisa Phelps turned on the red light on her ’01 Polaris. John got away with a .730 light and ran a 7.214 at 93.34 mph on his 7.19 dial. Lisa had a .454 light and ran well under her 7.70 dial with a 7.492 at 87.21 mph runner-up pass. Ashley Evangelow and Nick Washburn were the semifinalists.

Robbie LaPointe, far lane, won the battle over Paige DeSalvo in their final round matchup.

Jr. Dragster “A” class action saw Robbie LaPointe in his ’04 Mike Bos dragster score the win over Paige DeSalvo. Neither driver had stellar lights in the final, but Robbie’s .623 beat Paige’s .740 and he drove to a winning 8.008 at 77.32 mph run on his 7.97 dial to stop Paige’s new Craw’s powered, ’07 Halfscale dragster, Paige ran a 7.916 at 81.79 mph on her 7.90 dial-in for the runner-up spot. Amanda White was the semifinalist.

In Jr. Dragster “B” it was an all Snyder affair as big brother Joshua defeated Jacob to make it two in a row. As was the case in the “A” final, the reaction times were less than stellar, but they were close, .790 to .821. Josh ran an 8.970 at 74.89 mph on his 8.95 dial to drive around Jacob’s 13.110 at 50.73 mph runner-up effort on his 13.08 dial. Jake Lipke was the semifinalist.

That will wrap it up for today. We’ll see you next week for this season’s National Parts Peddler E.T. Series points opener.
