Earlier this year, we lost one of our truely beloved racers. George Cannellos passed away in January. For those of you who didnt know him, you certainly missed out. He was a hell of a man, a WW II B-17 veteran, a truely wonderful person, and a racer who simply never quit. George raced a red 68 Dodge Charger for more years than I can remember, and if he wasnt throwing pizza at Cosmos on the SU Hill, he was probably having a chat with someone about life, WW II, just good times and especially racing.
As of today, we have an additional $700 bonus to the Pro winner during our September 8th NYS CHampionship race. $500 has been put up anonimously by " friends of George Cannellos ", $100 by Competition Wedge Engines, and $100 by Jeff and Lisa Parker, Shock Doc Racing. I wouldnt be surprised if the pot grows a little larger. This will be paid out to the race winner, in memory of George and the Cannellos Family.
We will be honoring George during the race, with a special pass down the track, and maybe a few other things. The family of George will be on hand, and if all goes well, we may have a special guest riding along for Georges honor lap.
Please join us on Sept 8th, take a few minutes to learn a little about George that day, talk with his family, and help remember a great friend of ESTA and a truely wonderful person.
I have attached a link, so that you may know George a biut better.
Please accept this email as an introduction of George's son, Steve Cannellos. Many thanks to you and the ESTA team for arranging this. I have been in contact with Dan Miele and will help him get the car ready. I raced with my father in the 60's and was his pit young man crew for a long time before I could drive. I raced at EST from about 1969-76 and then moved away for work after school. Once I got married and settled in Boston, my race days were over unfortunately, but the love has never left me. I did race a few times in the 80's and 90's but was not around much.
I look forward to meeting you and to a memorable event. Let me know what I or my family can do
George's family are all looking forward to the event this weekend and hope many of his family, friends and racers are able to attend. We welcome the people that were very close to George racing and assisting him all those years including John Voutzinas and his Brother Dan, Buzzy Oley, Dan Miele, many of my cousins and far too many others to mention in this short note.
