Summit E.T. Racing Series - May 13
May 13 - Flooding at end of track forced us to run 1/8th mile on Sunday, but the racing was excellent for our second Summit E.T. Racing Series event. Racing shared the day with Mother's Day and some area college graduations, but the turnout was strong. Pete's event recap will follow shortly. Here's a quick recap of Sunday's class winners.
Super Pro
Tom Samsel defeated a red-lighting Jack Vault in their Super Pro final round. Tom killed the tree with a .503 light and ran .002 under his 5.98 dial-in at 112.55 mph, but it didn't hurt him as Jack's .493 red light sealed the win. Jack's foul start negated an otherwise outstanding pass. Jack ran a dial-matching 4.711 at 147.47 mph in his runner-up effort. Mike LaRose ran his '69 Plymouth "Hustle Stuff" to the lone semifinal finish.
Pro
Steve Doss also scored a red-light win in Pro when Frank LoGalbo lit the red eye in their heads-up final round match. Both racers dialed in at 6.45, but Frank was .008 too quick on the tree and handed to win over to Steve. Handed over may not be totally accurate as the "Stinger" cut a strong .537 light and a dial-matching 6.452 at 109.58 mph run and would have been tough to beat. Frank ran a 6.467 at 106.13 mph pass in his runner-up effort. Al Meier and Pro "Rookie" Justin Hardman were the semifinalists.
Pro MX
"The Rocket" Rick Fies was another beneficiary of a red light start as
Ryan Orizino was .004 too quick on his '96 asphalt Arctic Cat. Rick was ripe for picking as his .622 reaction would have opened the barn door for Ryan's .012-over 6.312 at 104.95 mph pass, but Rick was too "green" and scored the Pro MX win with his 5.717 at 128.26 mph run.
Nicole Smith scored the semifinal finish on her Arctic Cat.
Street Money
Dick Aversa took out
Joe DeMario in their classic Ford vs Chevy battle in the Street Money final. Dick ran his Chevy to a .537-initiated 10.985 at 63.66 mph run on his 10.90 dial-in to take the win. Joe was in the ballgame at the start with a .548 light, but fell off his 8.80 dial with a 9.221 pass.
Steve English made another late round run as he finished as the sole semifinalist.
Modified
Ken Miller made it 2-straight Modified wins by knocking out
Don Leppard in a close final. Ken held a razor-thin .532 to .533 starting line advantage, but his 6.836 (6.81 dial) run was too much for Don to hold off. Don ran his Camaro to a 6.951 at 99.53 mph pass on his 6.90 dial for the runner-up finish.
Fred Wieczerzak and
Fred Powers were the semifinalists.
Street Trophy
Joe Bird won a double breakout final over
Ted Lewis, bettering his April 29th semifinal finish. Joe held a .025 starting line advantage over Ted and ran an 8.803 at 78.82 mph run on his 8.82 dial for the win. Ted took too much win stripe trying close the gap and broke out more with a 7.960 on his 8.00 dial-in.
Dick Aversa and
Todd Minerd were the semifinalists
.
Bike/Sled Trophy
Ryan Orizino one-upped his Pro MX finish by defeating
"Fast Freddie" Jacobs in their final round match. Ryan's .516 to .541 start line advantage was too much for Fred to overcome causing Fred to break out with a 6.344 run on his 6.35 dial. Ryan ran a solid 6.303 at 105.92 pass on his 6.29 dial to score the win. Pro MX winner
Rick Fies piloted his Suzuki to the semifinal round to cap off a great day of racing.
Jr. Dragster "A"
RJ Budd won by a
Jacob Snyder red light, but ran right on his dial in the Jr. Dragster "A" final. RJ was off on the tree, but nailed his 842 dial-in with a right-on 8.428 at 76.79 mph winning pass. Jacob ran his 2012 Halfscale rail to a 7.987 at 81.38 mph pass on his 7.94 dial for the runner-up finish.
Dunham Hall was the lone semifinalist.
Jr. Dragster "B"
Jenna Lipke bested the "red-hot" rookie
Natalia Musolino in their Jr. "B" final. Both young ladies were a bit tardy on the line, but Jenna ran closest to her dial to take the win. Jenna's 8.943 at 71.20 mph run (8.90 dial) easily drove around Natalia's off-pace 13.321 (13.05 dial) effort.
Shane Bingel and
Dan Thorpe were the semifinalists.
