August 11 - It was supposed to be just a mundane day of testing for the Frigon Racing, Competition Wedge Engines sponsored Spitzer PTO dragster. With a bunch of off season changes, the team showed up Sunday, August 11th to do some 1/8th mile testing for their Pro Top Outlaw series and Asphalt Wars racing. After making a warm up run, the team then tested ESTA's new 330' concrete pad and the results proved favorable. Without making a single change to the car's setup, the team made two blistering 3.81 passes in a row with almost exact 190 mph speeds each pass.
Rumor has it that car sponsor, Competition Wedge Engines' Todd Tuohey "may have" had a hand in the decision to stretch it out more than 660'. After a brief team rally, car owner Bob Frigon decided to make a 1000' blast and see what it would hold. The decision was made for 1000 ft. apparently as it was still a whole new combination and they haven't "stepped on it" yet, as they say.
Late in the afternoon, the team pulled to the line, still noone knowing for sure if Bob would stretch it out, or take the 1/8 th mile data and be happy. It didn't take long to find out Bob did what he said he would do and ran it to 1000' and dumped the chutes to a new track E.T. record of 6.000 seconds! With the scoreboard only showing 200mph, Todd immediately surmised Bob "must have backed out early." Later on, the tower's data showed the car was at almost 215 mph at 1000'. Bob later saw that the car was " black tracking" quite heavily for about 500-600 feet! It was quite apparent the car was easily capable of making the first ever solid 5 second pass at ESTA Safety Park Dragstrip. What a sight that would have been!
The team assures us they will be back to make that happen at a later date. Bob would like to thank the entire ESTA staff and crew for taking time to make the runs, and also his crew, Renee Frigon, brothers Sean and Danny Frigon, as well as key sponsor, Competition Wedge Engines' Todd and Bryce Tuohey. Brad Penn Racing Oils also is on board as an associate sponsor this year.
Congratulations Frigon Racing and Competition Wedge Engines for resetting your ESTA track record.
